Watch The 2020 Eclipse In The Beautiful Chilean Lake District Witnessing a solar eclipse is always a mesmerising experience, but witnessing one in a remote and beautiful setting is something even more special. In 2020, the Pucon region of Chile will see a total solar eclipse happen on the 14th December, and we can promise that gazing up to watch it while surrounded by dramatic Andean scenery will be a real bucket-list tick. As part of a tailor-made itinerary we can arrange for you to experience this extraordinary phenomenon during a three-night glamping stay at the heart of the Chilean Lake District. Sleeping in luxurious Sibley tents and with dedicated chefs, guides and staff to look after you and your small group of fellow adventurers, you’ll not only see the eclipse but enjoy plenty of other adventures too. You might find yourself swimming in natural thermal baths one day and going white water rafting the next, or (if you're feeling really adventurous) perhaps even summit a volcano. Of course, the total solar eclipse will be the perfect conclusion to your glamping experience. PERFECT FOR Adventurous travellers who want to see an amazing natural phenomenon in one of the world’s most beautiful places. IN THE KNOW Chile has so much to offer that a longer trip is actively encouraged and could include visits to Chilean Patagonia or Easter Island.
Itinerary detailsSANTIAGO 2 NIGHTS Start your Chilean adventure in the vibrant capital, Santiago. This charming city is flanked by the towering Andes and has a unique mix of colonial character and cosmopolitan buzz. Stretch your legs after the flight with a stroll around the city, popping in to some of the numerous boutique shops, cafes and restaurants as you do. Continue the sightseeing by visiting the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolumbino to admire the pre-colonial art, and make sure you take the cable car up Cerro San Cristobal for amazing views of the city. PUCON 3 NIGHTS For the next leg of your trip you will fly south to Temuco, where you will then travel to your luxury glamping base in Pucon, at the heart of the beautiful Chilean Lake District. From here you will have unspoilt views of the solar eclipse on the 14th December. Before that though, spend two days exploring the region with your expert guides and your fellow adventurers. Over the course of the first two days you have several activities to pick and choose from. For example, choose to visit the Huerquehue National Park to enjoy dramatic mountain scenery in the foothills of the Andes. Alternatively, get the adrenaline pumping as you hike to the crater of the active Villarrica Volcano, or go white water rafting down class IV rapids on the Trancura River. Other options include visiting the Ojos del Caburgua waterfalls to admire the brilliant blue water, or bathing in the Termas Geometricas hot springs. On your third day in Pucon, travel to a secluded spot to await the eclipse. As the moon moves to totally shadow the sun, gaze up and take it all in - and then when it’s all over, take in your equally impressive surroundings with a cool drink to celebrate. THE CENTRAL VALLEY 2 NIGHTS After the excitement of the eclipse, return north to the Central Valley, where you can spend two days relaxing in the blissful surroundings of Santa Rita Vineyard. Stay at the historic Casa Real Hotel which dates back to the 1880s and was built to reflect the traditional architecture of Pompeii. During your stay, make the most of the lush landscapes and wander through the hotel’s gardens and vineyards in between enjoying a wine tasting or two. At the end of your stay you will be taken by car to Santiago airport for your flight home. Or, if you would like to extend your trip and stay longer in Chile, one of our South America experts will be happy help you decide where else to visit.
